My friend Katie made this little crown one day a few winters back out of some twigs, some tin foil, and the creativity of her own beautiful mind. No cost, it’s just priceless, and so was the fun we had with it. In light of the fact that everyone’s got the dead of winter blues, I just want to remind anyone reading this to stop moping around and holy god, have some fun already! It seems all I hear is, winter is a time where the snow piles up, and blah dee blah depression, but really it’s an excuse for people to get lazy, get down on themselves, forget about friends, and the list goes on. Sure, you’re stuck inside, but get creative, and by all means, MAKE SURE YOU SEE YOUR FRIENDS. Make Valentine’s cards, have arts and crafts nights, bake cookies/donuts/cupcakes, have movie nights, explore your inner cook and make dinner with/for friends, if you’re an artist (or want to be) this is prime time to be painting or drawing, same goes for musicians…write those songs already, what else are you going to do! If you’ve got a sewing machine, go thrift some fun clothes and go to town on them for a day making them your own! If you’ve got a nice camera, have a freaking photo shoot with your friends..it’s fun, and it’ll show off your talents. Go out for coffee, go sled riding, drink some hot cocoa, take road trips to go shopping or go to shows, dress up just for fun, have game nights, wing nights, party nights, friend nights, even make cute twig crowns for your friends for no reason except to genuinely have fun…get creative! I know I’m a culprit when it comes to giving in to the winter blues, but no one has to be. This is your life, winter or not, so just live it, you might end up finding winter to be something more fun and magical than a seasonal depression disorder.

$9.00 New Year’s outfit! Thrifted sweater hot off the racks at a local salvation army for $3.99. I took this baby down from a size 14 to a size Me with just a few minutes behind a sewing machine. The bow belt I found off a clearance rack in the mall for only a dollar, the tights at a local store in the ghetto for two bucks, and (can’t see them) two little black heels also thrifted for only $1.99. A set of simple pearls around the neck, 25 cents from another local thrift store. And, weird, my lipstick came from dollar general. Living the budgeted life and loving it! It was rewarding to wear this knowing I’d barely spent a dime, and could re-use each item in a different outfit on a different day.
